With so many options available, which camera is the best for use with FindAGrave?
By far the most important item for your “toolbox” or “graving kit” is a camera. For the best results, use a camera specifically designed for the purpose of taking quality photographs. And, to save wear and tear on backs and knee, preferably a camera with a flip out screen similar to a Nikon Coolpix P610 or Cannon PowerShot SX50. The flip out screen enables the user to get the camera low and in front of the subject headstone without kneeling or sitting on the ground.
CELL PHONE CAMERAS
The cameras on newer cell phones have come a long way and many do take acceptable photos IF you know how to use them. Cell phone cameras have never been designed for serious photography. If you are serious enough about fulfilling a photo request or photo documenting a cemetery, please try to be serious about the photos you take and post. In a pinch though, a cell phone camera can still do a fine job if you remember the tips mentioned in the article, How To Get Great Photos For FindAGrave .
As A.J. Marik, Curator of Archives and Senior Administrator once said, “We here at FindAGrave prefer great photos, but even a bad photo is better than nothing – it proves the grave was there.”
Everyone understands that FindAGravers are all volunteers and many of us make do with what we have but if you are upgrading your cell phone or getting a new camera, that is the perfect time to consider making changes that will improve the quality and ease of getting photographs for the loved ones and other visitors to the FindAGrave website.
