D/2 Biological Solution On Gravestones Before and After

By Jackie Saulmon Ramirez

We have heard much about D/2 Biological Solution and how it appears to revive stone structures and statuary to nearly new condition. But how would it work for the average graver in a local cemetery? See for yourself in the photos below by Brad Manzenberger of Stone Revival Historical Preservation.

In the first photo we have the Civil War Veteran’s stone of Joseph L. Stubbs of Company I, 51st Illinois Infantry as it was in 2010 before any conservation measures. The stone has biological growths over most of the face of the stone.

Brad wet the stone thoroughly and applied D/2 Biological Solution undiluted. He gently worked the solution all over the stone with a plastic bristle brush, paying particular attention to problem areas. (D/2 Biological Solution can be diluted 50/50.)

This photo shows Stubbs’s stone the same day as the first photograph, after the solution had been applied in 2010. Much of the growth had come off but there remains discoloration present.

This photo shows the Stubbs stone 2 ½ years later in 2013. The stone appears in near-pristine condition and shows how D/2 Biological Solution continued to remove environmental pollution and biological growths. The D/2 Biological Solution works with the elements from one week to one month after application. A second treatment may be needed if it rains within 12 hours after application or if heavily soiled.

D/2 Biological Solution has been highly recommended by the Association for Gravestone Studies as 100% safe and reliable for cleaning pollution, grime and biological growths of all kinds. Please refer to the manufacturer’s website for further recommendations and information.

D/2 Biological Solution is used on memorials, statues, buildings and other structures and is safe on all types of stone. D/2 Biological Solution does not require any special ventilation as it has no toxic fumes. It leaves no residue and is safe to use around people, animals and vegetation. In the event of excessive plant exposure, rinse all plants and water-in all planted ground areas contacted by D/2.

One of the primary benefits for gravers using D/2 Biological Solution in cemeteries is that no rinsing is required after treatment with the no scrub/no rinse method.

D/2 Biological Solution is available in 1, 5 and 55 gallon containers.

A warm and grateful ‘Thank You’ go to Stone Revival Historical Preservation and Brad Manzenberger for graciously allowing FoodForWorms.org to use their photographs to share the before and after photos of Civil War Veteran of Joseph L. Stubbs’ gravestone.
